The U.S. military carried out new strikes on an Iranian military site that posed a threat to U.S. forces and commercial traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported, citing an unnamed U.S. official.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported three explosions heard east of the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas at around 1:30 a.m. local time (22:00 GMT), adding that the exact location and source of the sounds were not yet clear and investigations were ongoing.
Bandar Abbas air defense systems were briefly activated following the explosions, according to Fars. This is a developing story.
