Brandon Doggett Network (“BDN”, “we”) publishes original journalism at brandondoggettnetwork.com and through the BDN iOS app. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
If you only read. Standard server logs (IP, browser, page requested, timestamp) for security and analytics. No account required.
If you subscribe to the newsletter. Your email address and (optionally) your first name. Stored at our sender, Resend (resend.com), and used only to deliver BDN newsletters and confirm signups. We do not sell, rent, or share email lists.
If you create a BDN account. Email, display name, and any preferences you set (saved articles, notification settings). Stored on our hosted WordPress database. Used to sync your saved articles across devices and remember your preferences.
If you enable push notifications. A device push token (an opaque identifier issued by Apple or Google to your specific device install). Stored alongside your subscriber preferences. Used only to deliver breaking-news alerts and never linked to identity for advertising.
If you comment. Your name, email (not displayed), and the comment text. Standard WordPress comment data.
What we don’t collect
- Cross-site tracking. We do not embed third-party advertising trackers.
- Marketing email lists for sale. Your email is for newsletters from BDN only.
- Sensitive identifiers (Social Security number, government ID, financial accounts).
- Children’s data: BDN is intended for readers 13+ (16+ in some EU jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from minors below those thresholds.
Who we share data with
We use a small number of subprocessors strictly to deliver the service. Each is contractually limited to that purpose:
- Resend (resend.com): newsletter sending. Stores subscriber email + name. Privacy policy.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google): push notification delivery. Stores device push tokens. Privacy policy.
- Cloudflare: content delivery and DDoS protection at the network edge. Privacy policy.
- Bluehost / Newfold Digital: web hosting. Privacy policy.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, analytics aggregators that build user profiles, or any party outside the operational subprocessors above.
Cookies + analytics
BDN’s website uses minimal cookies: a session cookie when you sign in, and a small set of preferences cookies (theme mode, dismissed banners). We do not use cross-site tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the full list.
Your rights
- Access and export. Email [email protected] and we’ll send you a copy of any data we hold about you.
- Correction. Sign in to your account and edit; or email us.
- Deletion. Email us and we’ll delete your account, subscriber record, and push tokens within 30 days. Public comments you’ve posted are not deleted automatically (we treat them as published statements) but we’ll handle deletion requests case by case.
- Unsubscribe. Every newsletter has a one-click unsubscribe link. Push notifications can be turned off in iOS Settings → Notifications → BDN, or in the app’s Account tab.
- California (CCPA), Virginia (VCDPA), and similar states. You have additional rights to know, correct, and delete. Contact us using the email above to exercise them.
- EU / UK (GDPR). You have the rights above plus the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. Our lawful basis is consent (newsletter, push) and legitimate interest (operating the website).
Data retention
We keep subscriber and account data only as long as the account is active. Inactive accounts may be purged after 24 months. Server logs are rotated within 90 days. Push tokens are removed when invalidated by Apple/Google or when you opt out.
Updates to this policy
If we change this policy materially, we’ll post a notice on this page and update the date at the top. For email/account holders, we’ll send a notice to the email on file at least 14 days before changes take effect.
