At least three dead after shooting at Islamic Center of San Diego

Correction May 18, 2026 5:31 pm CDT. Confirmed number of deceased individuals has increased from one to three.

[3:45 PM CDT] The Imam from the Islamic Center of San Diego says three are dead, including a security guard and two school staff.

[3:25 PM CDT] Two suspects are dead, according to three sources speaking to NBC7 San Diego.

[3:18 PM CDT] The San Diego Police Department says the that the threat has been “neutralized.”

At least one person was killed Monday after police responded to an active shooter report at the Islamic Center of San Diego, according to affiliate station KGTV. Officers arrived at Eckstrom Avenue in the Clairemont neighborhood around noon, the San Diego Police Department confirmed.

Details from the scene remain limited, and police have not publicly identified a suspect or released information on additional casualties.

Aerial footage from the scene showed authorities escorting people away from the building, including a line of school children holding hands as they evacuated the surrounding area.

San Diego police are urging the public to avoid the area while the scene is still “active but contained”
