Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is resigning to be with her husband, Abraham, after he was recently diagnosed with what she called ‘an extremely rare form of bone cancer,’ Fox News Digital reported Friday. Gabbard notified President Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office and said her last day at ODNI will be June 30.

In her formal resignation letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, Gabbard wrote that Abraham ‘faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months’ and that she could not ‘in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone’ while remaining in her role.

Both Gabbard and Trump published the resignation letter on their social media pages. BDN has attached that letter for you to read.

‘Abraham has been my rock throughout our eleven years of marriage,’ she wrote, citing his support through a military deployment to East Africa, multiple political campaigns, and her tenure as DNI.

In a post to Truth Social, President Trump said that the current Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will step up as acting intel chief.

Gabbard was confirmed as DNI in early 2025 and served roughly a year and a half in the role, overseeing a significant restructuring of the Intelligence Community that the administration said saved taxpayers more than $700 million annually. She said in the letter she is ‘fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition’ before her departure.
