Trump says Iran shot down U.S. Apache helicopter over Strait of Hormuz, vows response

President Donald Trump announced Monday that Iran shot down a U.S. Apache helicopter while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz, and said the United States would respond. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social at 11:38 a.m. on June 9, 2026.

Both pilots were safe and uninjured, Trump said. “The United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” he wrote, describing the downed aircraft as “highly sophisticated.”
