Corrections Policy

Last updated: June 1, 2026.

BDN corrects factual errors quickly and visibly. We don’t bury them.

How we handle a correction

  • Factual errors (wrong number, name, date, attribution): a “Correction” note is appended to the bottom of the original article describing what was wrong and what is now right. The original wrong text is preserved in the strikethrough or noted in the correction so the record is honest.
  • Updates (story develops, new facts emerge): we update the article and add an “Update” note with the time and substance of the change.
  • Clarifications (writing was ambiguous): we revise and add a “Clarification” note.
  • Major errors (the entire premise of an article was wrong): we issue a corrections post and link the original to the correction.

How to submit a correction

Email [email protected] with:

  • The article URL
  • The specific claim you believe is wrong
  • The correct information and a source we can verify it against

We aim to respond within 48 hours and to publish a correction within 24 hours of confirmation.

What we don’t do

  • Stealth-edit articles. If a meaningful word changed, the article carries a note saying so.
  • Take down accurate stories because a subject doesn’t like them.
  • Treat a request to “correct” an opinion or interpretation as a correction. We will publish substantive responses as letters or follow-ups when appropriate.
