Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, was charged Saturday with two counts of first-degree premeditated murder in the deaths of University of South Florida doctoral students Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office announced.

The charges are an upgrade from those filed Friday, when Abugharbieh was arrested on counts including unlawfully moving a dead body, tampering with physical evidence, and false imprisonment, after a SWAT standoff at a Tampa-area home during which he was seen wearing only a towel.
Human remains discovered near the Howard Frankland Bridge were positively identified Friday as Limon, 27. Bristy’s body has not been located as of Saturday, and the sheriff’s office said the search for her continues.
Both Limon and Bristy were last seen separately on April 16 in Tampa, according to the University of South Florida Police Department. The sheriff’s office declined to detail the evidence that led to the upgraded charges, citing the integrity of the investigation.
Anyone with information on Bristy’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200. This is a developing story.
