Newsom says Trump directed DOJ to investigate him and his wife

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said federal agents have knocked on the doors of family friends and former employees and are demanding records as part of what he called a politically motivated Justice Department investigation directed by President Donald Trump. Newsom said he learned within the past week that the investigation has extended to his wife, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom.

“After calling for my arrest last year, Donald Trump directed his Department of Justice to investigate me,” Newsom said. “And just in the last week, I’ve learned his campaign has reached my own home: to get me, he’s coming after my wife, Jen.”

Newsom said he believes he is being targeted because he is considering running for president and has repeatedly criticized Trump. He described Siebel Newsom as “a public servant” and “a woman who has dedicated her life to supporting women and girls” who has “done nothing wrong.”

“If they can’t intimidate me, they’ll go after the mother of our children,” Newsom said, adding: “Donald Trump picked the wrong target. We have nothing to hide.”
