Veteran ’60 Minutes’ correspondent Scott Pelley has been fired from CBS News, one day after accusing Editor in Chief Bari Weiss of ‘murdering’ the show during a staff meeting. Executive Producer Nick Bilton sent Pelley a termination-for-cause letter Tuesday night, effective immediately, according to a copy reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
Pelley interrupted Bilton at the start of a Monday staff meeting, before Bilton had finished his introductory remarks, according to people in attendance. Pelley accused Weiss, who was not present, of ‘murdering’ ’60 Minutes’ and questioned Bilton’s qualifications for the executive producer role, noting Bilton has not previously led a weekly TV news show.
