NASCAR announced his death Thursday in a statement that called Busch one of the sport’s greatest and fiercest drivers. He had been hospitalized earlier in the day with a severe illness, his family said, and was undergoing treatment.

Busch, a Las Vegas native, won Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019 and ranked among the most successful drivers in the sport’s history with 63 Cup wins. He was in his fourth season with Richard Childress Racing after winning both titles at Joe Gibbs Racing. His most recent win came in 2023.
NASCAR extended condolences to Busch’s family, Richard Childress Racing and the motorsports community.
The cause of death and the nature of the illness have not been disclosed.
