The United States opened the 2026 World Cup with a 4-1 win over Paraguay on Friday night in Inglewood, California.

An own goal off Paraguay defender Damián Bobadilla put the US ahead in the seventh minute. Folarin Balogun made it 2-0 in the 31st on an assist from Christian Pulisic, then grabbed his second right before halftime for a 3-0 lead. Paraguay pulled one back in the 73rd through substitute Mauricio, but the US restored a three-goal cushion late to seal the result.

The win gives the US an early edge in Group D, which it shares with Paraguay, Australia and Turkey. The top two teams advance to the round of 32.

It was the first World Cup match on home soil for the US since it was named co-host alongside Mexico and Canada.
